Toyota and Chrysler Aim for First MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge Honors

_RD41203-mediumLONG BEACH, Calif. (April 18, 2013) – A pair of major manufacturers, Toyota and Chrysler, seek to join the roster of MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge winners in the American Le Mans Series two-hour race at Long Beach Sat., April 20.

Rebellion Racing (Toyota) and SRT Viper (Chrysler) are poised to become the latest manufacturers to claim victory in America’s premiere environmental motorsports competition. Fourteen different manufacturers have earned at least one MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge award. Previous Long Beach winners include Acura, Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Honda (HPD) and Porsche.

“The competition in the MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge is every bit as close as the competition in the race itself,” said Silvia Mammone, manager motorsports marketing, Michelin North America. “In our first 39 races (78 awards), 33 of the MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge winners also won their respective class in the race.”

The Toyota-powered Rebellion Racing prototype won the 2012 season-ending Petit Le Mans race and finished third overall in the 2013 Twelve Hours of Sebring last month.

The SRT Vipers are in their first full season of ALMS competition after competing at selected 2012 events and recently led the GT class at both the 2012 Petit Le Mans and 2013 Twelve Hours of Sebring.srt

Created in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Environmental Protection Agency, SAE International and the sanctioning International Motor Sports Association, the MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge recognizes the diversity of manufacturers, powertrains, energy forms and technologies permitted under the ALMS rules. The goal is to accelerate the development and time to market of new technologies and energy forms and increase consumer awareness of the performance of alternative energies.

The distinctive MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge awards are presented to the Prototype and GT class cars that achieve the best combined scores for Clean, Fast and Efficient Performance at each ALMS race. All five ALMS permitted energy forms, E10, E85R, GTL or bio diesel, and Isobutanol fuels or any of the approved fuels in conjunction with a hybrid system, have claimed at least one MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge.
