Auberlen makes 400th BMW start

A giant of American sportscar racing, Bill Auberlen will be making his 400th start in a BMW machine today at Motul Petit Le Mans.

Auberlen started with BMW in 1996 with BMW Team PTG, and has been a part of every North American BMW program in the ensuing 20-plus years, joining BMW Team RLL in 2009.

Auberlen has also scored the maiden victory for each of the three BMW models he has raced in, the BMW M3, BMW Z4 and BMW M6.

Over his 550 professional race starts, Auberlen has racked up the most pole positions in North American sportscar racing and stands second on the all-time wins list.

Despite his storied career, Auberlen doesn’t dwell on the past. For him, it’s always about the winning the next race.

“400 races for BMW? It has been great, but I don’t often look back,” he said.

“Bring on the next one!”
