Lynn leads at NYC ePrix

Alex Lynn topped the timesheets in the first practice session for the FIA Formula E NYC ePrix in his debut outing for DS Virgin Racing.

Lynn, who is filling in for Jose Maria Lopez this weekend, turned a time of 1:05.977 around the tight Brooklyn street circuit. Lynn’s teammate, Sam Bird, slotted in behind him in second place.

The winner of the first race in Berlin, Felix Rosenqvist, set the third fastest time for Mahindra Racing and Nico Prost and Daniel Abt rounded out the top five.

Lucas Di Grassi could manage no better than sixth in the first session, with a time of 1:06.452 in the Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport machine. Di Grassi—currently running second in the championship—will want to improve on that performance if he hopes to capitalize on championship leader Sebastien Buemi’s absence. Buemi is missing the NYC ePrix because of a conflict with the World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Nurburgring.

Buemi’s replacement for the weekend, Pierre Gasly, finished 17th in the session with a time of 1:07.312 for the Renault e.Dams team.

Despite the incredibly narrow New York circuit, the session was marred by only one yellow flag, for the Venturi Formula E car of Tom Dillmann slowing to a halt on track.

The cars are back on track at 10:30 AM for the second practice session, followed by qualifying at 12:00 and the first race of the weekend at 4:00 PM.
