The on-track action for Lone Star Le Mans has kicked off at Circuit of The Americas with the first session for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Joao Barbosa topped a Corvette Daytona Prototype 1-2-3 in the session for what will be the penultimate race for the DP platform. The top class in the championship will be replaced next year with the Le Mans-style LM P2-based Daytona Prototype International cars.

Dane Cameron was second fastest this morning ahead of Jordan Taylor.

In the GTLM ranks it was Dirk Mueller who stopped the clocks at 2:04.638 for Ford Performance ahead of Porsche’s Patrick Pilet and the second Ford with Ryan Briscoe at the wheel.

Other class leaders included Tom Kimber-Smith in PC and Jens Klingmann for BMW in GT Daytona.

The FIA World Endurance Championship is next up for their first session from 2:45pm. This will be the first chance for the LM P1 machines from Porsche, Audi and Toyota to do battle here in Texas.

The IMSA series is back on track for their second session at 4:35pm.
