Win on track, Win on Green
Through the first four races of the 2013 American Le Mans Series season, the competition in the Michelin Green X Challenge is matching the intensity of the competition on the track.
The numbers 35 and 84 in Michelin Green X Challenge competition heading into this weekend’s round (Sunday,July 21,ESPN2) at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park reflect how being green does not mean being slow.
At the recent Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park, both Michelin Green X Challenge awards (Prototype and GT) were claimed by the respective race winners.
That marks the 34th and 35th times in 84 awards (42 races) that the Michelin Green X Challenge winners also won their respective class on the race track.
At Lime Rock, the Muscle Milk Pickett Racing Honda and BMW Team RLL took the victories both on the track and in the environmental challenges and lead both their respective ALMS and Michelin Green X Challenge championships.
Through the first four races of the 2013 ALMS season there have been four different Michelin Green X Challenge GT winners, with Risi Competizione Ferrari (Sebring), Corvette Racing (Long Beach), Team West/AJR Ferrari (Monterey), and BMW Team RLL (Lime Rock), celebrating victories in America’s premiere environmental motorsports competition.
Chevrolet holds a slim four point lead over Ferrari in the Green Challenge GT Manufacturers standings with BMW another eight points adrift, followed by SRT, Porsche and Aston Martin.
The margin is the same but roles have shifted in the GT Team standings where the #56 BMW Team RLL holds a four point edge over the #3 Corvette Racing and an additional four points over third place #4 Corvette.
On the Prototype side, the Muscle Milk Pickett Racing Honda leads the Rebellion Toyota, Level 5 Honda, Extreme Speed Honda, and Dyson Racing Mazda in the championship.
The program is overseen by the Green Racing steering team comprised of representatives of the U.S. Department of Energy, EPA, SAE International and the sanctioning International Motor Sports Association.
Points are awarded in the same fashion as ALMS driver, team and manufacturer points.
